Since September 1998, Knights of Columbus insurance grew by $7 billion

New Haven, CT - The Knights of Columbus announced Sept. 17 that it had a record $60 billion of life insurance in force. The Roman Catholic fraternal benefit society offers life insurance and annuities to its members and their families. Since September 1998 the amount of life insurance in force grew from $35 billion to $60 billion.

"This new milestone proves once again that our members have the utmost confidence in our insurance program and the ability of our products to grow their money without undue worry about the ups and downs of the market," said Carl A. Anderson, Supreme Knight and Chief Executive Officer of the 1.6 million member organization. "It is further proof of our pledge to preserve, protect and promote family life."

Offering life insurance to its members and their families has been a part of the organization’s program since its founding in 1882 in New Haven, Conn., by Father Michael J McGivney, a Roman Catholic priest. Knights of Columbus insurance is rated AAA (Superior) by Standard & Poor’s and A++ (Superior) by the A. M. Best Co.

The Knights of Columbus is the world’s largest Catholic family fraternal service organization with nearly 1.6 million members in approximately 12,000 local units throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico, the Philippines and the Caribbean. In 2000 the Knights raised and distributed a record $116 million to charity and volunteered a record 55 million hours of service.
