Special Olympics is one of the many community projects in which State and sub-ordinate council participation is highly encouraged by the Supreme Council of the Knights of Columbus. Knights and their families all over North America support the efforts of Special Olympians not only by financial donations but by donations of volunteer hours in local, provincial and national events.
The Ontario jurisdiction is proud to be a supporter of the Special Olympians of Ontario. Through our Tootsie Roll Campaigns funds are raise on a provincial level for Special Olympics Ontario, but most important both State and local councils have taken part as volunteers in the Summer and Winter Games and in local events.
Most recently the Ontario State Council sponsored the first annual “Knights of Columbus Special Day with the Jays”. This event not only raised funds for Special Olympics Ontario but many Special Olympians were able to attend a Toronto Blue Jays baseball game thanks to the generosity of our sponsors, both corporate and private. On that day, August 18, 2007 the Ontario State Council presented Special Olympics Ontario with a donation of $10,000 which were the proceeds of the first year of Tootsie Roll sales and the donations from the “Knights of Columbus Special Day with the Jays”.
Attached to this page you will find candid pictures taken during the first “Knights of Columbus Special Day with the Jays”. We hope you will enjoy them and as other events happen and we receive pictures we will attempt to post them here.
